KWU Outdoor Track opens season at Spire Challenge

LEAVENWORTH - Kansas Wesleyan Women's Outdoor Track opened its season on Friday night at the Spire Challenge as the distance runners competed at the event.

Kierra Jensen finished second in the 5000m in the 37 runner field, with a time of 18:32.79. Micah Dickens was fifth in 18:42.94, Charlee Lind was eighth in 18:45.93, Alayna Behrman was 10th in 18:51.06, and Mya Schweitzer was 21st in 19:52.41.

Madisyn Ehrlich led the Coyote finishers in the 1500m field with a third place finish with a time of 4:46.65. The field included 54 runners and took four heats to complete. Josie Koppes finished 13th with a time of 4:57.68, Makayla Little was 26th in 5:10.04, and Joni Schroeder was 27th in 5:12.79.

Allyson Taylor finished third in the Steeplechase with a time of 13:38.96.

In the 800m, Hailey Nordhus finished fourth with a time of 2:24.59, Emma McAlister was 13th with a time of 2:37.45, and Ava Kenyon was 14th with a time of 2:37.51.

The Coyotes are back in action on Saturday with the field events and sprints group heading to North Newton for the Bethel Invitational at Thresher Stadium.

Kansas Wesleyan Men's Outdoor Track also opened its season on Friday night with the distance runners running at the Spire Challenge Distance Carnival at Berkel Memorial Stadium.

Wyatt Johnson picked up a win in the 800m with a time of 1:54.87. Ty Davidson finished fifth with a time of 1:57.23, Triston Cottone finished seventh with a time of 1:58.29 and Nate Chavez finished 15th with a time of 2:03.83.

Giovanni Rios finished second in the Steeplechase with a time of 9:54.35, and Ian Doss was fifth with a time of 10:22.45.

The 5000m run had a huge field with 76 runners starting the race and three heats needed to safely run the event. Damion Jackson finished fourth in the race with a time of 14:49.23, Austin Hess was 14th with a time of 15:01.48, Jake Cruz was 15th with a time of 15:05.18, Tytus Reed was 28th with a time of 15:38.74, Austin Schaeffer was 37th with a time of 15:49.12, Landon Steeger was 46th with a time of 16:06.95, Brodie Bradshaw was 59th with a time of 16:45.45 and Jack Horacek was 69th with a time of 17:48.08.

Julian Avila was seventh in the 1500m with a time of 3:57.80, Evan Pearce was 29th in 4:10.85, Brenden Ellis was 34th in 4:12.63, Nicolas Martinez was 56th with a time of 4:21.11, and Will Childers was 83rd with a time of 4:51.82. The field for the 1500m was huge, 87 runners, taking six heats to complete.
