WICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita Wind Surge (20-25) fell 5-2 to the Corpus Christi Hooks (23-22) in the finale of a six-game series Sunday afternoon at Equity Bank Park as the teams split the series, 3-3.
Caden Kendle led the way offensively, recording his 12th multi-hit game of the season and recording his second consecutive game with an RBI. Jaime Ferrer also tallied an RBI single, while Jake Rucker extended his on-base streak to 18 games in the loss.
On the mound, the Wichita bullpen did not allow an earned run. Hunter Gregory did not allow an earned run in his outing, while Spencer Bengard, Jacob Webb and Kyle Bischoff combined for four scoreless innings to finish the game. The pitching staff also struck out 10 batters, marking Wichita's 49th game with double-digit strikeouts this season.
THE RUNDOWN
Ty Langenberg started things on the hill for Wichita. The right-hander worked through the first two innings facing just one batter over the minimum to keep the game scoreless.
The Wind Surge opened the scoring in the bottom of the second, using a single and a stolen base to put a runner in scoring position before Ferrer lined an RBI single into center field for a 1-0 lead.
Wichita added another run in the third, using a single and a sacrifice bunt to put a runner in scoring position before Kendle scorched a 105 mph RBI double to make it 2-0.
The Hooks tied the game in the top of the fourth, smashing a two-run homer onto the concourse in right field. Corpus Christi took the lead an inning later with a three-run homer to make it 5-2.
The Wichita bullpen kept the Wind Surge within striking distance the rest of the way. Bengard, Webb and Bischoff combined for four scoreless innings, but Wichita could not mount a comeback as the Hooks took the finale, 5-2, to split the six-game series.
