Sacred Heart hit the road bound for Belleville Tuesday night and came back to Salina with a doubleheader sweep of Republic County. The Lady Knights were victorious by a 45-28 score. The Sacred Heart boys followed with a 56-34 win.
The Sacred Heart girls opened the game on an 8-0 run and never trailed. After leading 13-2 after the opening quarter, the Lady Knights continued with what would be an additional 16 unanswered points.
Despite trailing 27-4 at halftime, the Lady Buffs continued to battle. After three quarters, Republic County had cut into the Sacred Heart lead although they were still looking up at a 38-20 deficit. In the end, the Lady Knights came away with a 17-point win.
Adelyn Lee led Sacred Heart with 15 points, Skylar Douglas added 14, and Mia Hamilton netted eight off the bench. The Lady Knights are now 4-5 overall and 2-2 in the NCAA league.
In the boys game, Sacred Heart began the first and second quarters with 5-0 scoring spurts and never relinquished their advantage. The Knights were on top 19-8 after the opening period and had a 26-16 cushion at halftime.
After leading 45-27 through three quarters, the Knights completed the doubleheader sweep with a 22-point road win.
Will Tuttle tallied an even 30 points to lead Sacred Heart and all scorers. Dom Matteucci added eight more off the bench. The Knights improve to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in the NCAA standings.
Sacred Heart returns home to face Ellsworth this Friday night.
