McPHERSON – Kansas Wesleyan Men's Volleyball was tripped up by the Dordt University Defenders on Saturday in Great Plains Athletic Conference action at Central Christian's Pyle Complex.
Dordt came away with a straight set victory over the Coyotes 25-18, 25-16, 25-18.
In the opening set the Coyotes trailed 14-12 after a kill by Victor Loya (SO/El Paso, Texas), but a 7-1 run by Dordt made it 21-13.
Wesleyan led 8-6 in the second set but an 8-1 run by Dordt put the defenders up 14-9 in the set.
The Coyotes led 8-6 in the third set, and held onto the lead, leading 15-13 when Dordt used a 5-0 run to take an 18-15 lead. KWU trailed 20-18 in the set after a Dordt serving error, but the Defenders came back to score the last five points of the set to win 25-18.
Loya and Christopher Perez (FR/Denver, Colo.) had six kills each to lead the Coyotes, who hit .057 in the match. Angel Diaz (FR/Waukegan, Ill.) had 10 assists and Colton Sessions (FR/West Palm Beach, Fla.) had eight.
Wesleyan heads to Parkville, Mo. next weekend for the Pirate Invitational at Park University. KWU plays four matches starting with facing fourth-ranked Park at 2 p.m. Friday. KWU faces No. 8 Missouri Valley at 6 p.m. Friday, then Mount Mercy on Saturday morning and rounds out the tournament against Culver-Stockton.
