Police arrest man in connection to Salina liquor store burglary

A man believed to be responsible for a Salina liquor store burglary early Monday was apprehended that evening after the liquor store owner recognized him in another part of the city.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning that officers were sent to the area of Ohio Street and E. Iron Avenue at approximately 7 p.m. Monday after the owner of Hillside Liquor, 1200 E. Crawford Street, saw a man who matched the description of the person who burgled the liquor store early Monday morning.

Through surveillance video from the liquor store, an officer had identified the burglar as Vitaliy Pochapskiy, 33, of Salina, Forrester said.

Officers made contact with Pochapskiy and found him to be in possession of some of the items taken from the liquor store. Forrester said liquor and cigarettes had been stolen from the liquor store.

Pochapskiy was arrested on the following requested charges, Forrester said.

●Felony damage to property
