Herington - John E. Snyder, 67, passed away August 10, 2021 at his residence in Herington. He was born January 15, 1954 in North Hollywood, California to Francis and Jessie (Clampitt) Snyder. John worked at NASA where he was vice president of ground operations.

John Earl Snyder was born on January 15, 1954 in North Hollywood, California to Frances and Jessie Snyder.

John was raised and attended school through high school in Northridge, California. After graduating from high school John enlisted and joined the Air Force. He was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado where he learned to track satellites.

John also was stationed on the island of Guam, where he continued to monitor satellites for the Air Force. This experience led him to join NASA after his tour of duty was completed.

His first assignment at NASA sent John to Vandenberg Air Force Base where he tracked satellites from lift off to circling the globe.

John continued his career at NASA and was assigned to the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. There he served as a ground controller during the space shuttle missions.

He was later promoted to manager of Mission Control Center for Lockheed Martin until his retirement when the space shuttle missions came to an end.

After his retirement from NASA, John relocated to Springfield, Missouri where he lived until moving to Herington, Kansas.

John had no children but had a deep love for his furry companions.  

Survivors include: sisters Marilyn Ham of Redondo Beach, California, Susie (Wesley) McAmis of Springfield, Missouri; great-nephew Preston McAmis; dear friend Michelle Miller of Junction City; his best friend Molly the dog, of the home.

Committal service 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 16, 2021 at Sunset Hill cemetery in Herington.
