The Southeast of Saline Trojan softball team wrapped up their 2021 regular season with an afternoon split against the Russell Broncos on Friday.

With a loss of 2-1 and a win of 4-1 SES will head to the postseason at 15-5 and as NCAA league champions.

Russell, now 13-3, heads to Hays TMP to finish up their regular season next week.

Game one of the doubleheader was a true pitchers duel, with Carly Commerford dominating opposing hitters, striking out 12 and not allowing a single hit for a full seven innings.

Unfortunately for Southeast, four errors and three walks gave Russell the baserunners they needed to scratch two runs across and head into the final inning with a 2-0 lead.

The Trojans were able to score in the home half of the seventh but still came up just short, falling in game one 2-1.

Game two had a much different feel to it as SES immediately struck for two runs in the bottom of the first and another in the third.

The teams traded runs in the fifth but this time, the run support was enough as Lexi Jacobson slammed the door shut, striking out nine and allowing just one run on one hit in a 4-1 victory for the Trojans.

At 15-5, the Trojans will be in a strong position at the state regional, and will look to punch their ticket to state in Hesston on May 17th.
