Five FHSU multi-athletes open competition at WSU

WICHITA - Five multi-athletes representing the Fort Hays State track and field teams opened competition at the Herm Wilson Invitational Friday hosted by Wichita State University.

Ellie Dusselier totaled a personal-best 2,763 points in the pentathlon, placing seventh overall and third amongst non-Division I athletes. Her largest point total of 621 came from the high jump, where she cleared the 4-11 bar. She also accumulated 620 points in both the 60m hurdles (10.51) and in the 800m run (2:35.98). Hadley Williams finished ninth overall with 2,639 points. She had the largest single-event total of the day for the Tigers in the pentathlon with 740 points after a 9.85 in the 60m hurdles.

On the men's side, Jack Pakkebier is in third after the first four events of the heptathlon and is first amongst non-DI competition. He currently sits in front of through three DI athletes. He opened the day with a personal-best 7.24 in the 60m dash, good for 799 points. He was then second in the field in the long jump with a clearance of 21-11, totaling 799 points.

Freshmen Malcolm Wiltshire and Ethan Salmans are in 12th and 13th, respectively, after day one of their first collegiate heptathlon. Wiltshire has 2,351 points through four events, while Salmans has accumulated 2,283 points. Both had their top point total come in the 60m dash, with Salmans running in 7.47 (723 points) and Wiltshire crossing the line in 7.54 (700 points).

The three Tigers in the heptathlon will wrap up competition Saturday (Feb. 5) beginning at 9:30 a.m. while the rest of the team begins open competition at 10 a.m.
