The Southeast of Saline Lady Trojans basketball team falls to 1-3 on the year at the hands of the seventh ranked Hillsboro Lady Trojans tonight by a final score of 52-42.

Hillsboro continues their now four game winning streak, but despite all of their veteran experience, Southeast played well, especially on the defensive end.

“I think this is the best defensively that we’ve played all year,” SES head coach Shauna Smith said. “We did a good job getting around screens and we forced them into some bad shots tonight.”

Karsyn Schlesener led the way for Southeast tonight with 15 points, the only player in double digits for SES.

Hillsboro was able to limit Southeast to just six points in the first quarter, and rode the help of an eight point halftime lead to the end.

“We knew their height was going to be a problem but I think if we made some baskets in the first quarter that would have really changed things for us,” Smith said.

While another loss doesn’t look good on the record, the development and fighting ability of this young Southeast team has been very promising to see, and continues to improve each week against tough opponents like Hillsboro.

“We’re going to continue getting better as we head towards the end of the season,” she said. “We don’t want to be playing our best basketball right now, we want to continue to get better and get ready for the end of our season.”

SES will be back in action tomorrow night when they host the 1-1 Rossville Bulldogs.
