The Chapman boys' basketball team will hit the road for the opening round of sub-state as they travel to McPherson to battle the Bulldogs on Tuesday night.

The Irish come into this contest as the 15-seed at 4-16 overall while the Bulldogs enter as the #2 team in Class 4A and the 2-seed at 17-3.

These two teams haven't met at any point in the last five years but McPherson's reputation hasn't been lost on Chapman, who will prepare for the battle of their season tonight.

"McPherson is a very good team," Irish head coach Drew Gruver said. "They're always very good defensively and play together as a team. All players on the floor have a high basketball IQ and are scoring threats which makes it hard to stop them. We have to take care of the ball tonight and not get sped up and not take quick shots. Defensively we can't let them drive past us and we have to get out on their shooters."

The winner of this game will advance to the sub-state finals to take on either the 7-seed in Andale (12-8) or the 11-seed in Rose Hill (11-9) on Friday.

Tip-off between the Irish and Bulldogs is set for 7:00 at McPherson High School.
