A Solomon man was injured in a motorcycle-minivan accident on Old 81 Highway in southern Saline County Saturday.

Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan said this morning that a red 2016 Dodge Caravan driven by Irene Nelson, 69, of Bridgeport, was northbound on Old Highway 81 just south of Hedberg Road when the right tires of the vehicle dropped off the right side of the road.

Damage to the Caravan was limited to the left rear quarter.
Damage to the Caravan was limited to the left rear quarter.

When Nelson maneuvered back onto the roadway, the Caravan ended up partially in the southbound lane, he said. Nelson attempted to get the Caravan back into the northbound lane before striking a southbound 1996 Big Dog motorcycle ridden by William Closs, 47, of Solomon, Soldan explained. Closs, as well, attempted to avoid the Caravan, but the motorcycle struck the rear driver's side of the Caravan, Soldan said.

Closs suffered injuries to an ankle and his left hand, and had abraisions along his left side, Soldan said. Closs was transported by EMS to Salina Regional Health Center, he added.

The left rear quarter of the Caravan was damaged, as was the left side of the motorcycle, Soldan said.
