NWS issues winter storm watches for counties in our area

Winter storm watches have been issued for our area.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Wichita has issued a winter storm watch in effect from late Sunday night through Monday afternoon for the following counties in our area.

Ellsworth County

Lincoln County

Marion County

McPherson County

Saline County

Heavy snow is possible with some wintry mix initially. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 8 inches and ice accumulations of a light glaze are possible. Winds are forecast to be from the north at 10 to 20 MPH with gusts around 25 mph.

Snow packed roads could make travel very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commutes. Those with travel plans are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts and have alternate plans should a warning be issued.

NWS in Topeka has issued a winter storm watch in effect from late Sunday night through Monday afternoon for the following counties in our area.

Clay County

Dickinson County

Heavy mixed precipitation possible. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 9 inches could fall along and north of an Abilene to Holton line. Varying snow totals from a trace to a few inches will be focused generally south of this line. Ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch will also be possible especially before the start of any snow.

Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Additionally, NWS in Topeka has issued a winter storm watch in effect from late Sunday night through Monday afternoon for the following counties in our area.

Cloud County

Ottawa County

Heavy mixed precipitation possible is possible. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 8 inches and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch are possible.

Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Slow down and use caution while traveling. Prepare for possible power outages.

NWS in Hastings, Neb., has issued a winter storm watch in effect from late Sunday night through late Monday night for the following counties in our area.

Jewell County

Mitchell County

Heavy snow is expected with total snow accumulations of 5 to 7 inches possible.

Heavy snow may make travel very difficult Monday and Monday night. The heaviest snow is expected to fall during the daytime on Monday. North winds will not be overly strong, but gusts of 20 to 30 MPH are possible. There is still some uncertainty on the storm track. Any changes in the track may result in large changes in expected snowfall.
