Sacred Heart dominant in doubleheader sweep of Republic County

Sacred Heart followed up a doubleheader sweep of Hutch Trinity at home last Friday and enjoyed the same success again at home against Republic County on Monday night.

Sacred Heart girls 48, Republic County 26

In the opener of the doubleheader, the Lady Knights began the game on a 20-0 run and never trailed. Leading 13-0 after the opening quarter, Sacred Heart's lead grew to 28-4 at halftime on the way to a 48-26 win.

12 different Lady Knights saw playing time Monday night as seven of them scored in the game. Katie Weiss led Sacred Heart with 18 points. Avery Eshleman added eight.

Sacred Heart improves to 7-5 overall and remains 1-3 in the NCAA league.

Sacred Heart boys 64, Republic County 17

Sacred Heart completed the doubleheader header sweep although the boys were challenged by Republic County early in the game.

Sacred Heart trailed three different times early in the matchup, but with the score 8-6, the Knights ended the first quarter on a 13-2 spurt and led the rest of the way. Sacred Heart completed what was a total of a 27-2 run to end the first half.

The Knights surrendered just seven points in the final three periods, including holding the Buffaloes scoreless in both the second and fourth quarters.

In the 64- 17 victory, Michael Matteucci led the Knights with 14 points. Evan Bogart added 13 and Max Ehrlich scored nine. Will Tuttle added nine more off the bench.

Sacred Heart is currently 11-1 overall and 3-1 in the NCAA league.

The Knights will now turn their attention to Southeast of Saline as the Trojans will be in Salina for a boys and girls twinbill on Tuesday night.
