A baler fire in rural northwest Saline County resulted in the loss of dozens of acres of grass, multiple bales of hay, and the baler used to make them.

Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan told Salina Post that the fire occurred on Friday evening, July 26, at 6:07 p.m. near the intersection of Eff Creek and Lockard Roads in Saline County.

"He [the Farmer] was running the baler when he noticed something that looked like a bearing went out," Soldan said. It sparked a field fire. He was able to free the baler from his tractor. He lost the baler; it burned up."

The fire destroyed a baler valued at $4,000, five bales of hay estimated at $600 and 40 acres of grass valued at $1,000.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
