🏐 Coyotes split pair of matches on Saturday in Labor Day Classic

PARKVILLE, Mo. - Kansas Wesleyan Women's Volleyball split its two matches in the Baker / Park Labor Day Classic on Saturday at the Breckon Sports Center at Park University.

The Coyotes got a 3-0 win over Central Baptist - 25-11, 25-16, 25-17; then lost to Park 3-0 - 25-18, 25-23, 25-12.

KWU 3, CBC 0

In the first set, KWU would use a 4-0 run to extend the lead to 15-8 and used another 5-0 run to take a 20-9 lead. The Coyotes would close out the set with four points to win easily.

Several mini spurts by the Coyotes helped KWU pull away in the second set as well.

KWU led 12-7 before scoring five straight to take a 17-7 lead and would close out the set with two points to win.

The third set was tied 6-6 when KWU scored six straight to lead 12-6. Another short four-point run made it 21-12 for the Coyotes, before closing out the set and match.

Aidyn Lagergren had 14 kills while hitting .565 in the set. Shelby Davidson added 10. Giovanna Ishii had 24 assists and Blair Penning had 15. Ivi Marcolino had 11 digs.

Park 3, KWU 0

Park broke an 8-8 tie in the first set with a 9-1 run to take a 17-9 lead. The Coyotes got back into it with a 5-0 run to make it 19-16, but the Coyotes couldn't get any closer in the set.

The second set saw the Coyotes come back to tie the set at 9-9 but Park would hold onto the lead. KWU trailed 20-17 before pushing out to a 22-20 lead. Park took at 23-22 lead but the Coyotes got a point to tie it, but Park would score the last two points to take the set.

KWU fell behind 7-1 to start the third set and couldn't recover.

Marcolino had 12 kills to lead the Coyotes. Giovanni Ishii had 14 assists. Malia Smith had 12 digs.
