Suspect assaults man and threatens two women before arrest

Disturbance at a Salina home leads to a male suspect assaulting a man and threatening two women, before his arrest.

According to the Salina Police Department (SPD) on Wednesday at around 8:50 pm, officers arrested a male suspect who allegedly assaulted a male in the 1200 block of Gypsum.

Before the arrest, SPD stated the suspect identified as 39-year old, Demetrius Carruthers and a 32-year old man were inside Carruthers' home, when a disturbance occurred between them. 

Reportedly, Carruthers allegedly swung a knife at the victim. The victim then exited the home and ran away, as Carruthers chased after him. SPD stated the victim then fell on the ground and Carruthers began kicking and hitting him.

Afterwards, neighbors heard the commotion and two women told Carruthers they were going to call the police. Carruthers then threatened the two by saying he was going to "shoot them and the police." He then returned to his home.

Officers then arrived to Carruthers' home and was arrested him without incident. He was booked into the Saline County Jail on the following requested charges of:

Aggravated Battery, Criminal Threat (2 requested charges) and Intimidation of a Witness (2 requested charges).

The victim was transported to Salina Regional Health Center for injuries he sustained.
