Local restaurant Blue Skye Brewery & Eats will host a visit from America’s Best Restaurants (ABR) in early July 2024.
America’s Best Restaurants, a national media and marketing company focusing on bringing attention to local, independently-owned restaurants, will bring its ABR Roadshow to the restaurant on July 10. Popular dishes will be highlighted, along with an extensive on-camera interview with owners Monte & Janelle Shadwick about the restaurant’s special place in the community.
The episode will be aired extensively on social media channels at a later date.
Open since 2013, Blue Skye Brewery & Eats offers woodfired pizza and a solid array of burgers, sandwiches, shareable appetizers and tacos, among other items, in a rustic-industrial atmosphere. They have won awards from Best of Salina many years in a row.
Monte Shadwick, who is a former mayor of Salina and a county commissioner, has been in the restaurant business on and off for thirty-five years; his three children all work in the restaurant as well.
Shadwick said Salina has a lot going for it.
“Salina right now is hot,” Shadwick said. “We've got a vibrant downtown scene, so a lot of people just come to downtown Salina for the artwork; we have a 1,400-seat theater; a lot of big things. We have a big pull factor.”
Shadwick is excited to be a part of the ABR Roadshow and the possibility of showcasing Blue Skye Brewery & Eats to a larger audience.
“It’d be a feather in our cap," Shadwick says. “Just to be part of this process is cool. If you walk into our place you don’t feel like you’re in Kansas. We're not just a restaurant, we’re a brewery - we’re the only brewery in town.”
Popular menu items that may be featured on the episode include the egg roll of the week, which can be everything from Buffalo chicken to Philly cheesesteak; Thai or Hot Honey Pizza; the peanut butter burger, or fish and chips with a homemade batter made with their Fire Engine Red beer and served with green chile tartar sauce.
America’s Best Restaurants will be filming on location on Wednesday, July 10 from 9 a.m. to noon CST.
The restaurant’s finished episode premiere date will be announced on its Facebook page and will be featured on America’s Best Restaurants’ website.
Restaurants featured on the ABR Roadshow are selected based on their customer reviews, menu items, social media presence, and level of involvement with their community. They are found through customer nominations, internal vetting or by a restaurant applying to be featured at www.americasbestrestaurants.com.
