KWU's Deines posts NAIA's top 1000m time at meet in Nebraska

SEWARD, Neb. – Tabetha Deines (SR/Salina, Kan.) shattered her own Indoor 1000m school record and posted the top time in the NAIA so far this season, and qualified for the NAIA National Championships in the event to lead a strong showing for the Coyotes at the Concordia Polar Dog on Saturday at Walz Fieldhouse.

Deines posted a time of 2:58.98 to win the event by 23 seconds over Concordia's Faith Williamson on the way to hitting the NAIA automatic qualifying standard in the event.

Deines' win wasn't the only top meet mark for the Coyotes.

Austin Hess (SO/Garden City, Kan.) won the 5000m with a time of 16:09.28 with a four second win over Daniel Reimer from Doane. Kalil Murphy (FR/Hollywood, Fla.) got a meet victory in the triple jump with a best jump of 13.63m.

The men's 4x400m relay team of Kalil MurphyEugene Dixon (SR/Plymouth, Minn.), Conner LaRosa (FR/Herington, Kan.) and Nigel Davis (SR/Los Angeles, Calif.) won the event with a time of 3:29.93.

Several others posted strong performances at the meet.

Stephanie Martinez (SR/Horizon City, Texas) placed second in the 5000m with a time of 18:33.66.

In the 400m, Dixon was second with a time of 50.86, Davis was fifth in 51.76, LaRosa was 11th in 54.01, and Ty Davidson (FR/Lakin, Kan.) was 15th in 54.78.

In the 600m, Deines finished fourth with a time of 1:40.39, Daniella Gaona (SO/Clifton, Texas) finished 15th with a time of 1:53.39, Kylie Mouser (FR/Wichita, Kan.) finished 17th with a time of 1:53.97 and Regan Rhodes (JR/Mullinville, Kan.) was 18th with a time of 1:59.04.

In the 1000m, Rhodes was fourth in 3:27.66, Gaona was fifth in 3:30.66, and Mouser was sixth in 3:30.90.

Kalil Murphy was fifth in the 200m with a time of 23.22 seconds, Archuleta was 14th with a time of 24.11 and Kamal Murphy (FR/Hollywood, Fla.) was 18th with a time of 24.55.

In the 1000m, Giovanni Rios (FR/Temecula, Calif.) was fifth with a time of 2:49.45, Gavin Tucker (FR/Wichita, Kan.) was seventh in 2:50.11, Jack Horacek (FR/Topeka. Kan.) was eighth in 2:54.84, and Shane Calvin (SO/Lakin, Kan.) was 10th with a time of 3:02.59.

KWU's second 4x400m relay team of Archuleta, Kamal Murphy, Davidson and Tucket was fifth with a time of 3:45.23.

Bailey Mann (FR/Ferris, Texas) finished seventh in the 400m with a time of 65.11.

Kamal Murphy was eighth in the triple jump with a best leap of 12.46m.

Tamayia Washington (FR/Manhattan, Kan.) was ninth in 27.92 seconds and Pace was 11th in 28.26 seconds in the 200m.

Tiffany Pace (FR/Ferris, Texas) finished 10th in the preliminaries of the 60m with a time of 8.30 seconds.

Giovanni Rios was 10th in the 600m with a time of 1:31.75.

Savannah Pilsner (FR/Columbus, Texas) was 11th in the 800m with a time of 3:02.32.

Kamal Murphy was 12th in the prelims of the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.74 seconds.

Nicole Holaday (JR/Gove, Kan.) was 14th in the shot put with a best throw of 10.96m.

Hunter Pane was 15th in the shot put with a best throw of 11.10m and was 23rd in the weight throw with a toss of 11.36m.

In the 5000m, Cisco Alvarez (FR/Colorado Springs, Colo.) was 14th with a time of 17:13.68 and Steven Merrill (SO/Arvada, Colo.) was 18th with a time of 17:38.55.

Marisela Hernandez-Castro (SR/Yuba City, Calif.) was 18th in the weight throw with a toss of 13 meters.

Darius Archuleta (FR/Liberal, Kan.) was 21st in the preliminaries of the 60m with a time of 7.48 seconds.

The Coyotes are back in action next weekend, back in Topeka for the Washburn Open on Friday and Saturday at Washburn University.
