Phyllis Irene Kolling, age 95, of Chapman Kansas, passed away at Countryside, Abilene Kansas, September 15, 2024.

Phyllis was born on June 2, 1929, to Loren and Esther (Buhrer) Long at the family farm in rural Chapman.

She attended Prairie Cottage Grade School. Phyllis then attended Dickinson County Community High School, graduating in 1947.

On October 10, 1948, she married Henry Kolling. They had three children, Gary, Joleen, and Jana. They lived in the Upland and Chapman communities and farmed. Besides her work on the family farm, Phyllis worked at the Chapman State Bank and Kolling Pharmacy.

Phyllis enjoyed cooking and baking, sewing, and gardening; also playing bridge, pitch, rummy, dominoes and RACKO, with friends and family. Her skills with arts and crafts brought joy to those around her. She prepared crafts for the Bethany Church Bible School, Sunday School, and at the Chapman library. Her grandchildren always had a fun craft project to accomplish.

She attended Sherman and Lakeside EHUs for most of her adult life, serving as an officer, committee member, and friend. Phyllis and Hank belonged to Buttons and Bows Square Dance group and Dickinson County Rural Life. They were active members of Bethany Church during their married life.

Survivors include son Gary Kolling (Devra), rural Chapman; daughters Joleen Marsteller (Tom), Carmel, Indiana, and Jana McCandless (Kevin), Nesbit, Mississippi. Grandchildren are Cherilyn Hultz (Jason), Doug Marsteller (Nicole), Jackie Thompson (Scott), Anna Barth (Andy), Justin McCandless (Jan), Kai Glauber (Laura), Crystal Kolling (Maria), Kirstie Frey (David), and many loving great grandchildren. Other family survivors are sisters-in-law Edna Long, Linda Long, Dorothy Holsted, Shirley Owens, and many nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was preceded in death by loving husband Hank of 69 years, parents Loren and Esther Long, her two brothers, Max and Leland Long. Also, in-laws William and Effie Kolling, sister-in-law Emma Welborn, brothers-in-law Robert Kolling, AC Holsted, Sam Welborn, and George Owens preceded her in death.
