Preschool programs will be the topic of the next Salina Public Schools (SPS) Chat.

The event is planned for Jan. 12 from 5:15-6:15 p.m. at Heartland Early Education, 700 Jupiter Avenue. Community members are encouraged to attend.

Kindergarten readiness is one of the measures identified as an outcome in the roadmap for Kansas to reach its vision for education. A focus on early childhood is essential so that every child enters kindergarten socially, emotionally and academically prepared for success.

SPS Chats offer community members an opportunity to learn more about our schools. The January Chat will include:

●Preschool update and exploration of how early childhood education supports the state’s kindergarten readiness goal.

●Video examples of preschool.

●Question and answer time with a panel of early childhood practitioners.

Everyone is invited to join the discussion and learn more about preschool at SPS.

SPS Chats are a part of the active collaboration and exchange between Salina residents and their schools. Sunset and Heusner elementary schools hosted SPS Chats in September and November, respectively. These opportunities feature discussion and district priorities. Additionally, Superintendent Exline is gathering feedback and input from staff and students at meetings throughout this school year.
