3Q struggles send T-Bird women to 66-56 road loss at Coffeyville

COFFEYVILLE – Trailing by a single point at the half, the Cloud County Community College women's basketball team would see host Coffeyville Community College outscore the T-Birds 24-13 in the third quarter in what would end up being the difference in a 66-56 road loss inside Nellis Hall in Coffeyville on Wednesday.

With the loss, Cloud County falls to 4-5 overall and 3-5 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference while the Red Ravens move into second place in the Jayhawk East Division and improving to 6-2 overall and 5-2 in league action.

In a game that would see the final stat lines evenly matched between teams, Cloud County would finish the game by going 18-of-48 (36.7 percent) from the field but struggle from the charity stripe (16-of-30, 53.3 percent). The Red Ravens would fare much better from the free-throw line by going 18-for-23 (78.3 percent) and connecting on 20-of-58 (34.5 percent) from the field while hitting eight threes.

Cloud County's starting five would be responsible for 42 of CCCC's 56 total points as freshman Derin Akdeniz would score 14 points and grab four rebounds while Sydni Keys would score 10 points and assist on four of the 18 T-Bird field goals. Coffeyville would get a game-high 20 from sophomore Faith Simpson who would deal with foul trouble throughout while Kaylin Lay added 11 points and five steals.

What's next?

Cloud County will get the KJCCC East Division bye on the schedule this upcoming Saturday but will return to action on Monday as the T-Birds will play one of their two postponed conference crossover games when they host Garden City at 6 PM. The Lady Broncbusters dropped a 55-46 decision at home to Barton Community College Wednesday night and will be at Dodge City on Saturday before heading to Concordia Monday night.
