SPRINGDALE, Ark. — The Wichita Wind Surge (15-21) defeated the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (14-22), 5-1, in game three of a six-game series Thursday night at Arvest Ballpark behind a strong start from Ty Langenberg and a four-run seventh inning.
The Wind Surge offense totaled 10 hits, its 24th double-digit hit game of the season. Brandon Winokur led the way with two hits and an RBI, while Graham Brown collected his first Double-A multi-hit game. Khadim Diaw added an RBI single to extend his hitting streak to 17 games, one shy of the franchise record.
On the mound, Langenberg earned the win after allowing just two hits over five scoreless innings. Cory Lewis followed with four innings of relief, allowing one run while striking out five to earn the save.
THE RUNDOWN
The Wind Surge opened the scoring in the top of the second inning after a single and a stolen base put a runner in scoring position before Jorel Ortega lined an RBI single into left field.
Langenberg cruised through the opening five innings, allowing just two hits while striking out two and keeping the Naturals off the scoreboard.
Wichita extended its lead in the seventh after an errant throw on a stolen-base attempt allowed a run to score. The Wind Surge then strung together five hits later in the inning to plate three more runs and build a 5-0 advantage.
Lewis handled the final four innings, tossing three scoreless frames before allowing a run in the ninth on a fielder's choice. He retired the final batter to secure the 5-1 victory and the save.
