Two long-time community volunteers in Ottawa and Saline counties were recently recognized by the Central Kansas Extension District (CKD) Governing Body for the unselfish energy and time they have given to the local Extension program.
Jana Van Meter of Ada and Nancy Bowden of Salina were named recipients of the 2021 CKD Extension Appreciation Award.
At the end of this year, Van Meter and Bowden will be retiring from the CKD governing body, which they were both elected to in 2013. They have served two consecutive four-year terms. Over the years, both ladies have stepped up into officer roles on two different occasions. Each of them held the secretary position for three years and had the role of treasurer for one.
Additionally, they have been active members of the CKD Family & Consumer Science Program Development Committee. Van Meter has been on the committee since the district was formed in 2004. Bowden has been a representative for the last eight years.
The K-State Research and Extension Appreciation Award was authorized by Extension administration in 1977. Its purpose is to honor individuals, businesses or organizations who have made outstanding contributions to extension programs in a county or district.
