Quentin C. Smith, age 76, of Concordia, KS, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 18, 2022 at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, KS. He was born on July 22, 1945 in Canton, Ohio to Cyrillas “Cy” H. and Martha A. (Starkey) Smith and was raised on a dairy farm.
He graduated from Glenwood High School in 1963. He later graduated from Ohio State University and earned his master's degree in agricultural economics from Kansas State University.
He served in Korea as a captain in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1971 and served in the U.S. National Guard with 16 years of service to his country. He was a former commander of the Concordia National Guard.
He married Christine Fuss on September 12, 1970 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Canton, Ohio. He and Christine moved to Concordia, KS in 1973 when he began working for Kansas State University Extension as a farm management fieldman. In 1983 he started Farm Management Services Inc. and worked as an accountant and tax adviser and recently completed his last tax season in 2022.
He was a member of The Baptist Church, Concordia, KS where he served in various capacities. He was a faithful member of the Concordia Rotary Club and Gideons International.
Quentin is survived by his wife Christine, Concordia, KS; sons Abe Smith (Arian), Kearney, NE, Ben Smith (Alissa), Olathe, KS and Josh Smith (Erin), Chapel Hill, NC; grandchildren Elijah, Isaac, Lydia, Gavin, Ella, Liam, Harrison and Allie; brothers Dennis Smith (Jennifer), Navarre, OH and Myron Smith, Paris, OH; and sister Wilma Nelson (Bill), Gallatin, TN.
He was preceded by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 2022 at The Baptist Church, Concordia, KS with Pastor Jonathan Peppers and Rev. Alden Dick officiating. Burial will follow at West Branch Cemetery, Concordia, KS with military honors conducted American Legion Post #76. Visitation will be Sunday, May 22, 2022 from 1-8 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 4-7 p.m. at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, KS.
The family suggests memorials to The Baptist Church or Gideons International in care of the funeral home.
