NWS: August in Salina was slightly warmer, wetter than normal

August was a tad bit warmer and wetter than normal for Salina.

According to the National Weather Service's August Climate Summary, the monthly average temperature was 81.2 degrees, which was 2.6 degree warmer than normal. It tied for the 35th warmest August since records began in 1900, and it was the warmest since 2014.

Five days reached or exceeded 100 degrees during the month, which was normal for a typical August. The warmest temperature was 103 degrees on Aug. 12, and the coolest was 57 degrees on Aug. 2.

Rainfall-wise, 4.07 inches fell at the airport during the month, which was 0.36 of an inch wetter than normal. It was the 41st wettest August on record.

Two days received more than an inch of rain, with the greatest 24-hour total, 1.61 inches, falling on Aug. 29.
