Bethany Oratorio Society again adjusts 'Messiah' performance

LINDSBORG -- The Bethany Oratorio Society has once again adjusted its performance of Handel's Messiah.

Earlier this year, the Easter tradition was postponed to the fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now it is changing again.

The following notice was included in today's edition of Bethany College's Stay Strong -- Swede On e-newsletter:

We have determined it will not be possible for a performance of Handel's "Messiah" to take place with full forces on Sunday, October 4. We would have loved to have done this as part of Homecoming Weekend, but it just isn't safe. We will, however, plan for a performance with smaller forces (30 singers and 12 players) at a date to be determined later in the fall. Dr. Lucas has already been working with local health officials to create a protocol (including testing) that will allow us to safely perform this work during the 2020 calendar year. He will be calling on current and former members of the Bethany Oratorio Society to come together to make this happen. More information to come on this!

Events such as "Jazz Walk and Maker's Street," and the "Celebration of Women in Leadership" will be moved to Palm Sunday weekend 2021 (instead of October 15-18). It is hopeful that the production of "Little Women," will also be on Palm Sunday weekend 2021. Stay tuned.
