An ongoing scam is affecting Salina citizens where a caller is spoofing the Saline County Sheriff's Office phone number and asking for $1,500.

According to Salina Police Department Capt. James Feldman, the scam began today and ranged in the demands to call receivers.

"The court or government agencies will not be asking for money to be sent to them, and these callers will most likely be asking the money to be sent in gift cards which is a huge red flag," Feldman stated. "If there is a concern about the validity of a call, do not send any money and contact law enforcement."

Saline County Court Administrator Todd Heitschmidt released this statement following the recent scams.

Be aware of phone calls for failure to report to Jury Duty.
Recently, several individuals have received calls from a person posing to be from local law enforcement and saying the individual has failed to show for jury duty and a warrant for their arrest has been issued. The caller then attempts to advise the individual to send them money to post a bond to avoid arrest. The caller then advises a Zoom hearing would be scheduled, and the individual would be contacted with a court date and time and Zoom information once the money has been received.

This is a scam, so if you are receiving a call regarding missing jury duty and a warrant has been issued for your arrest, you can call local law enforcement or you can call Saline County District Court at 785-309-5874.
