North Salina storage facility burgled; woman arrested

A local woman was arrested in connection to a north Salina storage facility burglary early Monday morning.

Officers were sent to Access Storage, Inc., 1433 N. Ninth Street at approximately 4 a.m. Monday after a witness reported seeing someone walking inside the facility's fence. Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning.

Officers walked the perimeter of the fence and saw two people near the northwest corner of the fence, which had been cut.

The two fled the property on foot and headed southbound. One of the people, identified as Candice Rhea, 40, of Salina, was apprehended, Forrester said. The man who was with her fled.

Forrester said that the lock had been punched on unit No. 73. The metal wall between unit No. 73 and unit No. 76 had been cut open. Later, officers discovered that unit No. 68 also had been entered and items from that unit were moved into unit No. 76.

Damage estimates are as follows, according to Forrester.

●Unit No. 73 door, $500

●The metal wall, $80

●The chain-link fence, $500

A search warrant was executed at Rhea's residence in the 1200 block of N. 10th Street. During the search, police allegedly found drug paraphernalia with methamphetamine residue on it, Forrester said.

Rhea was arrested on the following requested charges, Forrester said.

●Burglary

●Damage to property

●Trespassing

●Possession of methamphetamine

●Possession of drug paraphernalia

●Obstruction

Police are looking for the man who allegedly was with Rhea, Forrester said.
