TOPEKA – Kansas Wesleyan men's indoor track saw another school record set, twice, in the same event, as the Coyotes competed at the Washburn Open on Friday and Saturday.
Eryk Kyser (JR/Caney, Kan.) and Mark Benjamin (SO/Houston, Texas) both set a new school record in the 200m on Friday. Kyser set the mark with a time of 22.28 and just a few minutes later, Benjamin took the record with a 21.98.
Benjamin placed 21st in the event, and Kyser was 38th. The field contained many runners from the NCAA Division 2 level.
Wesleyan had plenty of outstanding performances in the field, that was full of top NCAA Division 2 talent.
Cole Parker (SR/Corning, Calif.) placed eighth in the shot put with a mark of 15.60m, Dylan Worrell (SO/White City, Kan.) was 18th with a mark of 14.39m and Keegan Lott (FR/Horton, Kan.) was 22nd with a mark of 14.04m.
KWU's Distance Medley Relay team placed ninth as the group of Giovanni Rios (SO/Temecula, Calif.), Conner LaRosa (SO/Herington, Kan.), Julian Avila (SO/Manhattan, Kan.) and Jake Cruz (FR/Pasadena, Texas) posted a time of 10:41.92.
Benjamin posted a 10th place finish in the preliminaries of the 60m dash with a time of 6.97 seconds.
In the 600 yard run, Nicholas Martinez placed 16th with a time of 1:17.54.
Simeon Faagai (JR/Ponca City, Okla.) placed 19th in the weight throw with a mark of 14.99m, and Cole Parker was 30th with a mark of 13.90m.
In the 800m, Ty Davidson (SO/Lakin, Kan.) placed 22nd with a time of 1:59.20, and Will Griffith was 30th with a time of 2:00.36.
In the Mile, Giovanni Rios was 27th with a time of 4:30.06, Shane Calvin (JR/Lakin, Kan.) was 31st with a time of 4:32.49, Jack Horacek (SO/Topeka. Kan.) was 36th with a time of 4:35.06, and Cisco Alvarez (SO/Colorado Springs, Colo.) was 46th with a time of 4:42.61.
Darius Archuleta (SO/Liberal, Kan.) placed 29th in the long jump with a mark of 12.75m and Kamal Murphy (SO/Hollywood, Fla.) placed 35th with a mark of 12.40m.
KWU's 4x400m relay team of Conner LaRosa, Julian Avila, Nicolas Martinez (FR/Coppell, Texas) and Riley Garcia (FR/San Antonio, Texas) placed 30th with a time of 3:33.88.
In the 3000m, Jake Cruz was 32nd with a time of 8:58.47, and Austin Hess (JR/Garden City, Kan.) was 36th with a time of 9:00.73.
Kamal Murphy placed 36th in the preliminaries of the 60m hurdles.
Up next for the Coyotes is the KCAC Championships on Friday and Saturday at the Heskett Center at Wichita State University.
