The Southeast of Saline Lady Trojans will travel to Chapman today for a 6:00 tip with the Fighting Irish girls basketball team (1-8).
SES comes into this game riding high on a four game win streak while Chapman has lost each of their last five.
While the scoring hasn’t been flashy for Southeast during this run, the defense has been stifling, holding their last four opponents to under 25 points per game.
“I think our defense has been very impressive during this winning streak, SES head coach Shauna Smith said. “Offensively we haven’t always looked very good so it’s been great to see them step up on that side of the ball.”
Chapman’s slow start is thanks in large part to a delayed start to the season, as the team was unable to play games or hold meaningful practice before the first of the year.
The Fighting Irish are led by Maya Kirkpatrick, a veteran leader who averages 8.6 points per game.
Chapman is also expected to start Sophia Cavanaugh, Marie Meuli, Shannon Anderson and Keira Jones, a lineup that will feature height for Southeast to contend with.
“They have some size which always hurts us,” Smith said. “We like to get to the rim and that will be tough but we have to get out on the run and keep them off the boards.”
Tip off for tonight's game is scheduled for 6pm at Chapman High School. As always Eagle Radio is the home for SES basketball, and games can be heard on KINA (910 AM or 107.5 FM) or streamed on Salina Post courtesy of Frisbie Construction Co.
