Obituary for Wendell L. Haubein | Ryan Mortuary

October 27, 1934 ~ May 17, 2021 (age 86)

God gave life to Wendell L. Haubein on October 27, 1934 at Lockwood, Missouri.  He came as a gift from God to Harold L. and Lillian M. (Barker) Haubein.

God came to Wendell in holy baptism at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lockwood, Missouri on February 5, 1939 and established a covenant with him and remained faithful to that covenant coming to him again and again with the assurance of forgiveness.

Wendell learned more about the meaning of that covenant as he reviewed the basic truths of the bible and made public confession of his faith in the rite of confirmation on Palm Sunday, March 21, 1948 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lockwood, Missouri.  The Triune God continued to remind him of His presence through word and sacrament as he faithfully worshiped and communed through the years.

In 1956, he graduated from the University of Missouri School of Mines & Metallurgy (MU of S&T) and worked for a number of aerospace companies in California and Illinois for 23 years.

Wendell was united in marriage to Georgia N. Teague on January 26, 1956.  They were members of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Fullerton, CA when Wendell entered Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne, IN to study for the holy ministry.  At St. Stephen Wendell was active in all areas of church administration and taught adult bible class for 16 years.   In January 1981 he began serving St. John Lutheran, Lohman, Missouri as a deferred vicar.   On December 4, 1981 he was ordained and installed as the pastor of St. John and served there until 1985.

In April 1985, Wendell accepted the call to Trinity Lutheran Church, Salina, KS where he served as associate pastor and then as senior pastor from 1989 until he retired in October 1996.

In retirement they lived in Bolivar and Marshfield, Missouri. Wendell continued to serve as supply pastor for congregations throughout Missouri and also served as a volunteer with CMH Hospice of Bolivar.

In their marriage, Georgia and Wendell were blessed with three daughters, Teresa Lyn Chiusolo, Michele Ann Williams and Brenda Renee Nelson. They had 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Georgia received the final victory when Jesus took her to her heavenly home.

On September 1, 2007, Wendell and Dianne Kay Dir were married in Salina where they made their home until his death.  He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

An additional three daughters joined Wendell’s family through this marriage.   Genee’ D. Lindstrom, RaShelle’ D. Hook and LaNette’ R. Thirkell.   This also included six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

God reached down and gave Wendell the final victory at the age of  86 on May 17, 2021.    We cannot long mourn the departure of one who dies in the faith; death is no loss to him, but we extend Christian love and concern to family and friends.
