WICHITA - The Wind Surge fell short to the Amarillo Sod Poodles 6-3 on Saturday night in extra innings as the Sod Poodles scored four runs in the tenth inning to take the series lead.
Tied 2-2 in the tenth inning, Amarillo scored four runs behind an RBI double from Edouardo Diaz that scored two and RBI singles from Drew Stankiewicz and Tristin English that gave the Sod Poodles a commanding 6-2 lead. Diaz led the way for Amarillo as he went three for five with two RBIs.
Wichita newcomer Nash Knight made his Wind Surge debut on the night and hit a go-ahead home run in the bottom of the fifth inning that gave Wichita a 2-1 lead.
Kody Funderburk got the start on the mound for Wichita and pitched five innings and allowed only one run on four hits and struck out three hitters before being relieved by Cody Laweryson in the sixth inning.
Notes: Nash Knight hit his first home run in his first game with Wichita this season… The Surge are now 1-3 when wearing Tumba Vacas uniforms… Wichita turned a season-high three double plays in the ballgame… The Surge played back-to-back extra-inning games for the first time this season. Wichita fell to 7-3 in extra innings. The Surge added infielder Nash Knight in a trade from the Texas Rangers.
