A Salina man was arrested after he allegedly struck a female family member with his vehicle.

Officers were sent to the 100 block of S. Columbia Avenue at approximately 7 p.m. Thursday for the report of a disturbance. A witness told police that a man in a maroon SUV struck a woman with the vehicle, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning.

Surveillance video showed a Mazda 5 driving in reverse in the 100 block of S. Columbia Avenue. A woman exited the vehicle and began to walk away. The vehicle then accelerated, almost striking the woman, Forrester said.

The woman began running and the vehicle went up over the curb and into the grass and sidewalk, striking the woman, he said.

The woman, a 31-year-old from Salina, did not suffer any serious injuries, Forrester said.

Additionally, a 36-year-old man who attempted to reach into the vehicle to try to get the driver to stop received an abrasion, Forrester said.

At approximately 7:55 p.m., an officer located the Mazda in the 600 block of S. Ohio Street. When the officer stopped the vehicle, open cans of beer and methamphetamine allegedly were found inside, Forrester said.
