ARKANSAS CITY – Two NJCAA Region VI Champions were crowned on Friday for the number-six ranked Cloud County Community College women's track and field team as the T-Birds jumped out to a 12-point lead in the team race following day two of action at the Mark A. Phillips Track and Field Complex in Arkansas City.
With six events scored towards the meet, Cloud County has a total of 54 points to sit ahead of second-place Fort Scott who scored 42 points while Cowley (37 points) rounds out the top three.
Finishing up the heptathlon after jumping out to a day one lead would be freshman Aeryn Reckward who would be competing in the multi-event competition for the first time this season and wind up taking fourth in the event with 2,664 points. The T-Birds would net their first Region VI Champion with a facility record throw from Marie Forbes in the discus with a throw of 50.80 meters (166 ft. 8 in.) to go along with a Region VI Title from the 4x800 meter relay team (Ludjenie Mondesir, Passion Crews, Pamela Milano, and Kya Johnson – 9:39.65).
The final event of the evening on the women's side would lead to a Region runner-up finish for CCCC as sophomore Patricia Koma would run a time of 40:28.08 in the 10,000 meters to take second as the T-Birds would also add third place finishes from Hollie Stewart in the javelin (38.05 meters, 124 ft. – 10 in.) and Maycee Callihan in the discus (41.96 meters, 137 ft. – 8 in.). Brenna Davidson would snag a fourth-place finish in her only event of the day by recording a mark of 37.55 meters (123 ft. – 2 in.) in the javelin as CCCC would total six top-five finishes on Friday.

Cloud County will look to hang on to their slim lead on the final day of action Saturday as the T-Birds will look to make it an indoor and outdoor sweep of the 2021 Region VI Titles. Final day action is slated to start at 10 a.m. with field events while track events will get started around 1 p.m.
