Obituary | Francis H. Tatro of Glasco, Kansas | Wilson Family Funeral Home

February 28, 1950 - March 19, 2022

Francis Harmen Tatro, 72, Glasco, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2022.

Francis Harmen Tatro was born February 28, 1950, in Concordia, Kansas. He died March 19, 2022, in Glasco, Kansas.

The second son of Victor and Harriett (Clark) Tatro, Francis married Sheryl Louise Schmidt on August 22, 1970. The union led to three sons: Clayton (wife Melissa) of Cimarron, Kansas; Beau (wife Stephanie) of Manhattan, Kansas; and Thayne (wife Misti) of Fairbury, Nebraska, as well as eight grandchildren among the three families.

Francis was exceptionally proud of his family and all of their involvements and accomplishments. He was a strong role model for his sons, a doting grandpa, and a grateful husband. He was a coach in the greatest sense of the word as well a caretaker and protector of his family.

Francis’ career revolved around agribusiness until a later-life career change led to him serving as the administrator of the Nicol Home, an assisted-care facility in Glasco.

He is respected and remembered for his leadership in multiple community events and activities – Lions Club, Jaycees, volunteer fire fighter, Nicole Home Board of Trustees, GHS Alumni Banquet, Fun Day Trap Shoot, and K-18 baseball coach. He was appreciative of small-town life and happy to call Glasco, Kansas, his home.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Francis is probably best known for his love of golf and the life lessons he taught through the game. In addition to getting numerous young men and women started in golf, he was an accomplished golfer himself. He won the Glasco Country Club Championship in five different decades (1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, 2020s). The golf course and the Club benefitted from the countless number of hours he spent to maintain and manicure the course in addition to accounting for the finances of the Club.

He thoroughly enjoyed supporting the activities of his grandchildren. Spending time with the grandchildren in many ways – fishing, hunting, golfing, attending athletic events, concerts and performances – was a priority. Playing cards and sharing stories was a true joy.

Francis was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, George.

He is survived in death by his wife Sherry; a brother, Ken Tatro (wife Barb); a sister, Kathy Lehmann (husband Daryl); sons Clayton (wife Melissa), Beau (wife Stephanie), and Thayne (wife Misti); eight grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Royanne Tatro.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 23 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 24 at the Glasco Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Glasco Country Club and left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467.
