A 37-year-old Salina man was arrested on Friday after he allegedly made alarming statements about plans to "shoot up a school" while standing in line at a local Casey's convenience store.
At approximately 8 a.m. on Sept. 13 Salina Police Department (SPD) officers responded to Casey's at 725 West Schilling Road after a concerned customer called to report a man standing in line making concerning statements.
"The reporting party indicated that they were in the store waiting in line when the suspect allegedly stated that he was running late and had plans to shoot up a school, adding that, 'people were gonna die,'" said SPD Captain James Feldman.
Officers quickly arrived on the scene and located the suspect, identified as Johnny Baldwin, of Salina. No weapons were found at the scene, and Baldwin did not attempt to flee. He was taken into custody without incident.
Baldwin is currently facing a count of criminal threat.
Police urge the community to remain vigilant and report any concerning behavior they see or hear. SPD Feldman thanked the citizen for making the call.
