Variety of topics on county agenda for Tuesday

A variety of items are on the Saline County Commission agenda for Tuesday.

About the meeting

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. in room 107 of the City-County Building, 300 West Ash Street. A time for public comment is scheduled near the beginning of the meeting.

County Commission meetings are now available by several options. The Board of County Commissioners encourage citizen participation in local governance processes. Making every effort to be in compliance with the Kansas Open Meetings Act (KSA 75-4317). Everyone is invited to participate in meetings. Speakers are requested to state their full name and address before delivering remarks. Please approach the podium and use the microphone. Comments are limited to 3 minutes.

Agenda items

Commissioners are scheduled to consider a request from the Department of Senior Services to accept a $4,219 grant from the Greater Salina Community Foundation. The funds would be used to purchase pet food that would be delivered to Meals on Wheels customers who have pets.

The Road and Bridge Department is requesting that commissioners approve entering into an agreement with Cartegraph Solutions for software used by the department to manage workflow, track assets, log traffic counts, and track vehicle and equipment maintenance, shop and yard inventory, and aggregate usage. The cost ranges from $28,340.26 for one year to $30,066.19 for three years.

Commissioners also are scheduled to consider a request from the Information Technology Department to spend $35,000 with Eagle, Inc., of Salina for a data center technology upgrade. According to information in the commission meeting packet, the upgrade is needed "in order to meet Saline County's current and future data storage requirements."

Additionally, commissioners are being asked by the Road and Bridge Department to accept a bid from APAC-Kansas for hot-mix asphalt pavement, profile milling, and aggregate shoulder construction. The bid is in the amount of $1,013,695.57. Locations included in the bid include the following.

●Old Highway 81 from Kansas Highway 143 to the Saline/Ottawa county line. The project includes adding a three-foot asphalt widening on both sides of the pavement.

●West Old Highway 40 from Interstate 135 (I-135) east to the city limits of Salina. The project includes a three-foot asphalt widening from I-135 to the State Street intersection.

●State Street from west Old Highway 40 east to the Salina city limits.

●West North Street from the UPS building east to West Old Highway 40.

Commissioners also will hear a request from Justin Mader, county engineer, to reorganize his staff and replace the vacated county surveyor position with an assistant county engineer position. The county surveyor position was vacated due to a retirement.
