Karen Diann Thompson Barefield, 74, of Minneapolis, KS, passed away on November 7, 2024, at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, KS, surrounded by her family. The youngest of four siblings, Karen was born January 30, 1950, in McAlester, OK, to Norman and Leila (Turner) Thompson.
Karen was a 1968 graduate of Great Bend High School. She received her bachelor’s from Sterling College and Juris Doctorate from Washburn University in 1975, where she met Bruce W. Barefield. She and Bruce were united in marriage on December 30, 1974. In 1976 she joined the Law Firm of Corman & Barefield, and where she practiced law for 45 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, David; brother-in-law, Russ; brother-in-law, Duane; and niece, Laura.
Karen is survived by her daughters, Sela (Gisela) Grigg and her husband, Steve of Minneapolis and Andie (Andrea) Barefield of Lincoln, NE; two grandchildren, Tyler Grigg, and Kaysie (Keagon) Williamson; brother, Curtis Thompson (Bernice), and sister Betty Anderson, sister-in-law, Robin Barefield (Mike Munsey); and her nieces and nephews, Craig, Keith, Brian, Ross, Chad, Carina, Richard, and Nick.
Visitation will be Friday, November 15 from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467, immediate family will not be present. A graveside service will be held at Highland Cemetery, 1298 K-106 Highway, Minneapolis, KS 67467, on Saturday, November 16 at 11:00 A.M.
