William “Bill” Dean Long, 93, of El Dorado, Kansas, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Ascension via Christi Villa Ridge in Wichita. He was born January 19, 1930 in Newton, Kansas, the son of Elmer and Hazel (Hoffman) Long.
Bill grew up in Hesston. He graduated from Wichita State University with a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical engineering.
He worked for Hesston Corporation for 25 years as an engineer. Bill later worked for Clark Equipment in North Dakota as the VP of engineering for 20 years.
He was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Hesston. Bill also used to belong to the Shriners and the Elks Club.
Bill is survived by his four children, Gary (Shauna) Long of Goddard, Jo Ann Thaden of Wichita, Betty (Park) Norris of El Dorado, and John (Nancy) Long of Wamego; seven grandchildren, Nick Norris, Tyler Norris, Chelsea Mayans, Levi Long, Hannah Long, Austin Long, and Kyle Long; four great-grandchildren, plus two on the way; and two sisters, Susan (Royce) Enns of Hesston, and Patricia Bond of Lebanon, OR.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Margaret Long; brother Samuel Long; and brother-in-law Kenneth Bond.
Cremation is planned. Services are pending and will be announced and held at a later date.
