
Elvis Edward (Ed) Lindley Shannon, 89, Fishers, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 11, 2020. Ed was born to Roy and Mae (Hanson) Shannon in Lamar, Kansas, September 30, 1931. On November 22, 1951 he married Clara Jane Sharp.
Ed graduated from Miltonvale High school and attended Central College in McPherson, Kansas. After graduation Ed began farming fulltime in Miltonvale, Kansas. Ed was known in the area as a progressive farmer and operated John Deere equipment, which he chose as his preferred equipment to operate. Ed devoted his farming career to raising wheat, milo, irrigated corn and soybeans. He also raised cattle and operated his own custom combining business for a number of years in the states of Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota and North Dakota.
Ed was a faithful member of the F.C. Hill Memorial Church in Miltonvale, Kansas. He served on the local church board, the local school board and other area agricultural boards. His life was deeply enriched by his faith, his family and his farming.
In May, 2002 Ed and CJ retired and moved to Highlands Ranch, Colorado where they enjoyed family close by and a more leisurely life in the mountain area. In February, 2017 they moved to Fishers, Indiana because of health needs and more simple living desires.
Ed was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Clara Jane (CJ); his father, William LeRoy Shannon; mother, Mae Marie (Hansen); two brothers, Rex Shannon and Paul Shannon; one sister, Violet Kellogg; daughter, Becky Zortman and son-in-law, Delbert Evans. He is survived by his brother, Eldon Shannon of Lenexa, KS; sister-in-law, Idris Shannon of Miltonvale, KS; four daughters; Patricia (Courtney) Dean of Topeka, KS; Jill (Phil) Caldwell of Carmel, IN; Jan (Steve) Brown of Castle Rock, CO and Lori Evans of Springfield, OR; Son-in-law, Duane Zortman of Amarillo, TX; granddaughters, Diana (Jamie) Klawon of Loveland, CO, Kimberly (Ryan) Martin of Olathe, KS, Desiree (Mark) Lambert of Carmel, IN, Bethany (Jason) Lewis of Carmel, IN, Holly (Ricardo) Lerma of Scottsdale, AZ, Kelly (Sam) Moore of Topeka, KS, Kattie (Jarred) Haile of Lubbock, TX; grandsons, Ryker Brown of Castle Rock, CO, Malik Evans and Mazeth Evans of Springfield, OR; eight great granddaughters, Avery Klawon, Lilly Klawon, Ella Martin, Mia Martin, Georgia Martin, Lacey Lambert, Hadley Lewis, Jagger Lerma, and Selah Moore; eight great grandsons, Maverick Martin, Duke Martin, Jackson Lambert, Bennett Lewis, Beckham Lerma, Thaddeus Moore, Ezekiel Moore, and Maddox Haile; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and friends.
Private inurnment will take place in the Miltonvale Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Samaritan’s Purse and sent in care of Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home.
