Evelyn “Jean” Britt age 84 passed away Saturday, June 1, 2024 at the Village Manor Nursing Home in Abilene. She was born September 26, 1939 the daughter of Oval and Gladys Rosa Leah (Sowder) Abel in Hymera, Indiana. She lived in Indiana and Germany before coming to Kansas.
She married Duane Britt on October 13, 1956 in Abilene. Jean worked at Best Western Inn and Vacu-Blast and retired from Alco-Duckwall general office where she worked in the coffee shop for 21 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, step father M/SGT Wendell C. Reid, her son Steven R. Britt, brother James Abel, sisters Blossom Insley and Gladys Rosa Leah Reid.
Jean is survived by her husband Duane of the home in Solomon, sons Gary Britt and Dan Britt of Solomon, sister in law Sylvia Mickey, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
After retirement, Jean enjoyed spending time with her family, feeding the birds, sewing, reading, computer, and crossword puzzles.
Services for Jean will be at 10:30 am Friday, June 7, 2024 at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home with Pastor Lindsey Brummer officiating. Her final resting place will be in the Green Lawn Cemetery south of Solomon. Friends may sign the register book until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Solomon First Responders and may be sent in care of the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW 3rd, Abilene, Kansas 67410.
