
Overall, September 2020 was cooler and drier than normal across the region, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wichita.
For Salina, the average monthly temperature was 67.7 degrees, which was 2.5 degrees cooler than normal. It tied for the 26th coolest September since records began in 1900, and it was the coolest September since 2011, NWS noted.
September 2020 was a whopping 9.1 degrees cooler than its 2019 counterpart, which ranked as the 5th warmest September on record.
The highest temperature for September 2020 was 100, which was recorded on Sept. 6. Conversely, the lowest temperature for September 2020 was 35 on Sept. 29.

Precipitation-wise, 1.81 inches was measured at the official reporting station at the Salina Regional Airport during the month, which was 0.89 inches drier than normal. It was the 49th driest September on record, and the driest since 2019, NWS reported.
Furthermore, since Aug. 1, only 2.49 inches had fallen, which was 4.16 inches drier than normal. It was the 11th driest August through September period on record, and the driest since 2000.
