The SES Lady Trojans remain one of the hottest teams in 3A, winning their seventh straight tonight in a 46-36 win over Minneapolis.
With this win, SES is a perfect 7-0 in league play, and has clinched at least a share of the NCAA title, something the team has not done since 2014-15.
A win in either of the teams next two league contests will secure sole ownership of the title, which the Lady Trojans have not accomplished since 2007-08.
Southeast was led tonight by 16 points from Karsyn Schlesener, and got a solid night from Maddie Harris as well with 12.
This contest was much closer than the one these two played in earlier this year, but that was expected with both teams improving since then.
“This game was never going to be the way it was the first time we played,” SES head coach Shauna Smith said. “Defensively I thought we weren’t really communicating well and we let them on the boards but overall I was proud of how we fought.”
Once again defense won the day for the Lady Trojans, who forced Minneapolis into 17 turnovers and allowed just five players to score all night.
Minneapolis was led by Alaina Cossaart who scored 14 in the loss. The Lady Lions kept it close at the half but managed just three field goals out of the break.
“We needed to wear them down,” Smith said. “We got into some foul trouble tonight but we really grinded them down and got some stops in the second half.”
SES will be back in action after a long weekend on Monday when they host Ellinwood for their final non-league game of the season.
