⚾️ Coyotes complete series sweep of Avila with 17-8 win

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - It took a little more than two weeks, but the Kansas Wesleyan Baseball team completed its series sweep of the Avila Eagles on Tuesday at the Zarda Multisport Complex.

The teams played the third game of the series which was postponed from February 20.

The Coyotes got things going in the top of the first as Fernando Ruvalcaba drove in the first run of the inning with a single and later in the inning Logan Arndt hit a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

Avila tied it in the bottom of the second, but the Coyotes put three on the board in the third. Ruvalcaba walked, Chris Finocchario singled and Arndt singled to load the bases. The first run of the inning came when Blake Dale hit into a double play, but a run scored. Zac Goldenberg followed with a 2-run homer to put KWU up 5-2.

Finocchario hit a 2-run home in the top of the fourth, but Avila got two back in the bottom of the innings.

KWU blew the game open in the fifth with eight runs. Chase Aurand, Niko Olson and Carter Allen opened the inning with hits and Garrett Garfield drove in the first run of the inning on a walk. Ruvalcaba followed with a 2-run single. The Coyotes loaded the bases again and this time Dale walked to force in another run. Goldenberg then connected on a grand slam to put the lead out to 15-4.

Garfield hit a solo homer in the sixth for another Coyote run, and the Coyotes put one more on the board in the seventh when pinch hitter Remson Cronkhite walked with the bases loaded.

Avila got four back in the last, but could not get passed the Coyotes.

Allen and Ruvalcaba had three hits each for the Coyotes. Goldenberg drove in six runs on the day. Connor Rhorer got the win in relief for the Coyotes.
