With the high school football season just days away, the crews at Mammoth Construction have been working long and hard to get Abilene’s new stadium ready in time for their home opener next week.

The old stadium, which had been a part of the town since 1937, will finally be replaced. The new facility includes an artificial turf field, new home bleachers and press box, a brand new track, concession stands, restrooms and new locker rooms for both the home and visiting sides.

Segments of the old home bleachers have been moved to the opposite end to provide a better experience for visiting fans, and all who attend will get to witness the new 15x26 foot video board.

First year head coach Brad Nicks is excited to see the finished project, as this will be the second team he has coached to receive a new field courtesy of Mammoth Construction. Mammoth was responsible for putting in the new field at Shawnee Heights, where Nick's last coached.

“It’s really exciting, Nicks said. “It’s created a buzz in the town with people wanting to know when it's going to be ready.”

While the field and bleachers aren’t quite ready for gameday, Abilene athletic director Will Burton is confident that the field will be ready to go when the Cowboys host Concordia in their home opener on September 11th.

Finishing the project on time won’t be easy, but Mammoth has already put in a massive amount of work to keep the timeline running.

“Hats off to Mammoth construction and their crews,” Nicks said. “Those guys have been working 12 to 14 hour days seven days a week to get it done.”
