The American Red Cross is in great need of blood, and you can help.

A blood drive is scheduled for Monday through Wednesday in Salina and many appointment times are still available, according to Teri Novotny of the American Red Cross.

"The Red Cross is now experiencing the lowest blood donor turnout since the pandemic began and more blood donors are needed now," Novotny told Salina Post. "Right now our appointments are far from full. We have almost 150 openings. I’m hopeful we’ll see more folks making appointments in the next day or two."

The Salina Community Blood Drive is scheduled for noon to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the multi-purpose room of Sunrise Presbyterian Church, 825 E. Beloit Avenue.

To schedule an appointment, call 1-800-733-2767 or visit and enter "Salina." With more people receiving a COVID-19 vaccine, the American Red Cross needs to known the vaccine manufacturer's name for each vaccinated donor in order to determine blood donation eligibility.

According to Novotny, persons who give blood, platelets, or plasma in May are automatically entered for a chance to win a travel trailer camper, powered by Suburban Propane. Through May 15, persons who give will receive a $5 gift card by email, she added.
