Wind Surge
WICHITA - The Wichita Wind Surge won its second game in a row over the Arkansas Travelers by a score of 16-12 Wednesday afternoon at Riverfront Stadium.
Wichita’s offense set a season high of 21 hits, one shy of their franchise record. The run total was their highest of the season. Matt Wallner and Anthony Prato led the team with four hits each.
Cole Sturgeon got the Surge on the board with a 3-run blast in the first inning. He finished the game 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs.
Chris Williams joined the offensive barrage with an RBI single in second and a 3-run home run in the third inning.
After falling behind the Surge 14-0, the Travelers sent up 14 batters in the fifth inning, scoring nine runs on nine hits. It was most runs the Wind Surge have given up in a single inning this season.
After a late game push from the Travelers, Denny Bentley recorded the win, pitching three innings and giving up one run.
Notes: Matt Wallner recorded his third 4-hit game this season … The Surge tied their season record for triples in a game with two, one each by Nash Knight and Edouard Julien…The teams combined for 39 hits.
