BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – The Kansas Wesleyan women's basketball team is on a roll of late.

The Coyotes' 64-52 Kansas Conference victory over Oklahoma Wesleyan on Wednesday night inside Mueller Sports Center was a prime example of why they are succeeding. They shot 44 percent from the field, limited OKWU to 30 percent, scored 44 points in the paint, got 34 points from their reserves, won the rebounding battle 39-36 and had 14 second-chance points.

The result was their fourth consecutive victory, the seventh in their last eight games and raised their record to 15-8 overall, 13-4 in conference play. It also gave them a sweep of the regular-season series against OKWU after winning 64-53 in Salina on December 3 and was their third consecutive victory over the Eagles.

The Coyotes took control of the game midway through the first quarter. Trailing 7-6 they outscored OKWU 17-1 the rest of the quarter and led 23-8.

The Eagles narrowed the deficit to 33-25 at halftime by outscoring KWU 17-10 in the second quarter. The Coyotes, though, scored the first six points of the third quarter and extended the run to 11-3 for a 44-28 lead midway through the quarter.

They led 49-32 after three quarters and the Eagles got no closer than the final score the final 10 minutes.

Tylieea Wallace (SO/Overland Park, Kan.) and Jill Stephens (SO/Colby, Kan.) led the way for KWU, each finishing with 13 points and eight rebounds. Catherine Bowman (SO/Bucklin, Kan.) added 11 points and three assists while Angel Lee (SO/Grandview, Mo.) had nine points and five rebounds and Caila Hill (SR/Rossville, Kan.) a team-best eight rebounds to along with six points.

KWU was 26 of 59 shooting overall but did struggle from beyond the 3-point arc, connecting on 3 of 15 attempts.

OKWU (8-15 overall, 7-11 KCAC) was 20 of 67 from the field including 2 of 18 from long range – both 3-pointers coming in the second half. River Jeffries scored a game-high 19 points for the Eagles while Mahaley Farmer had 16 points and 14 rebounds.

The game was the Coyotes' fifth on the road (4-1) in their last six contests. They remain on the road Saturday when they travel to Ottawa to play the Braves in a 5 p.m. conference contest inside Wilson Field House.

Ottawa (14-9, 10-7 KCAC) defeated Friends 60-45 Wednesday night in Ottawa and has won four of its last five games. KWU defeated the Braves 72-55 Dec. 7 in Mabee Arena as Hill scored 15 points and Wallace 14.
