NEW ORLEANS, La. - Cloud County Community College head women's track and field coach Ted Schmitz has been named the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association Outdoor Track and Field Central Region Women's Coach of the Year as announced by the USTFCCCA on Wednesday.

Schmitz, in his 40th year at the helm of the Thunderbirds, coached CCCC to an NJCAA Region VI Championship with 178 points and had four event champions as Cloud County would cap off a season that saw the women's cross country team, indoor track and field team, and outdoor track and field team all bring home Region VI Titles. Cloud County would go on to earn a sixth-place team finish at the 2021 NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships as the 4x800 meter relay team would win the national title by nearly 14 seconds. The T-Birds would also have three national runner-up performances (Marie Forbes - shot put, discus, Brenna Davidson - javelin) at the meet as part of their 72 point outing.
