SALINA - Ruth Etta Pickrell, 90, passed away Friday, November 13, 2020. She was the daughter of Clemeth C and Etta M Abercrombie, and was born in Barnard, KS, September 11, 1930.
Ruth attended Stephens College and the University of Kansas, where she earned a degree in education and also met her husband, Robert M Pickrell. They were married June 14, 1952, in Barnard. They spent 4 years traveling during Bob's Navy years before settling in Barnard, then moving to Salina in 1966.
Ruth taught school a few years, and worked alongside her husband many years before retiring in 1972. She and Bob spent the winter months in Palm Desert, Ca, for 20 years, where they enjoyed playing golf and making many friends. She volunteered with many organizations, enjoyed playing golf, and spending time with friends. Her greatest love was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all.
Ruth is survived by: her daughter, Tina (Rob) Leiker, her son, Rob (Barb) Pickrell; grandchildren, Angie (Manny) Mendez, Isaac (Christine) McCabe, and Ben (Mia) McCabe; great-grandchildren, Brian, Justin, Harper, Elan, Natalie, Nadia, Natasha, and Lucas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; brother, Clemeth A Abercrombie; and grandson, Jeremy Zimmer.
No services are planned. lnurnment will be at Saltville Cemetery, Barnard, KS.
